Bangladesh's agriculture sector is the foundation of the economy, creating jobs and adding around $50 billion to the country's GDP. For these factors, it is frequently cited as one of the most essential sectors for eradicating poverty and creating employment.
Numerous agricultural technologies, including reapers, axial flow pumps, and seed fertilizer drills, are currently used in Bangladesh. In just five to six years, Bangladesh has used seed drills to cultivate more than 640 hectares of land for over 1,300 farmers, just in the Barisal district!

Agribusiness in Bangladesh supports about 100 million people, more than half of the country’s population of 170 million which is evident that the importance of agriculture is not shrinking because it ensures food safety and provides raw materials for multiple manufacturing industries.
The potential of the country’s agribusiness sector is significant. According to BIDA, which oversees and promotes private investment, the agribusiness sector produces about 70 million metric tons of output, mainly rice, potatoes, and sugar crops.
According to statistics the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) if the Agriculture & Fishing sector of Bangladesh was US$ 284.66 in 2019 and the government of Bangladesh has undertaken multiple steps such as ‘action plan for 2022-23 fiscal for the agricultural sector’ to increase investment in the sector.
The government of Bangladesh acknowledges that there are 16.5 million farmers in the country and is taking steps to keep agricultural expenses at the farmer's level by providing subsidies. This will increase opportunities and maybe spur future growth in the sector.
